METER ASSET PROVIDER PROGRAM - BACKGROUND

In 2018, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) developed the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Regulation as a mechanism to inject capital into Nigeria’s electricity metering industry without increasing the distribution companies (DISCOs) capital expenditure requirements. Other objectives include encouraging an independent and competitive meter services industry, enhancing revenue assurance, and accelerating the elimination of estimated billing practices.
